20.Standing female figure.Makonde - Mozambique


A very early and rare form of female figure from the Makonde of
Mozambique.The figure has got a wonderful and typical Makonde
facial scarifications and wearing a lip adornment.
It has a excellent shiney patina all over the surface.Early 1900's.

A very powerful Pende mask with strong
pronounced features.The inside of the mask has a
very worn patina as a result of alot of tribal use.
Feather decorations on top are origional to the mask.
Would be pre 1950's atleast.

lip adornment.Collected in Northern region of Mozambique.

14.Important ceremonial spoon.Kwere,Tanzania


This is a rare and important spoon from the Kwere people
of the coastal region of Tanzania.It would have been used
during important boys and girls initiation ceremonies.
There are two standing figures,a male and a female at the
base of the stem.Early to mid 1900's.

A very large Ivory bangle ,possibly from Sudan, together with
three Ivory Dinka rings.All are rare examples.

12.Fetish figure.Kiguru,North Eastern region of Tanzania.


Would have been used for traditional healing.This whole region
was well known for traditional healing.
The figure has a wooden head,glass bead eyes and shell formimg one of its arms.
The body of the figure is cloth covered in earth and dried chicken blood
and is wrapped around a animal born. Early 1900's.
