This ceremonial hat consists of a cap surmounted by a prominent sweeping head crest – both constructed from natural fibre, tightly woven onto a wicker frame. The arrangement of the fibre strands creates overlapping patterns.
Bamileke head adornments are fashioned from an array of materials, ranging from exotic bird feathers and porcupine quills to natural fibre and hair. During ceremonial occasions, headwear expressed the wearer’s status and their sphere of influence within Bamileke society.
