This rare Pygmy baby sling/carrier from the North-Eastern DRC has an amazing contemporary appearance.
The carrier is made from multiple strands of twisted and knotted raffia fibre attached to the main body of a woven-raffia bodice.
The sling consists of two layers of a sealed under carry, which acts like an animal pouch, protecting the baby when it is carried.
The sling/carrier is similar in form to a bodice, with a tapered lower section which serves to secure the baby.
