Maasai ear adornments such as this are extremely rare. Most known examples arrived into early English collections during the colonial period. This rare ear adornment, carved from hippopotamus tooth, exhibits a beautiful form. Very fine zig-zag decorations, which have worn over time, are featured on one side of the adornment. The surface of the ear adornment has developed a lovely honey yellow patina.
