This Hemba figure, with a powerful serene expression, stands in an upright stance clasping her breasts. Her head is adorned with a pronounced coiffure typically seen in Hemba sculpture. Body scarification markings adorn the figure’s breasts and stomach.
This Hemba figure previously belonged to Penn Kent, the former Governor of the Bank of England, and was acquired by him via Bonhams, London in the 1990s. Penn Kent had a keen interest in African tribal art.
