With its arms raised to the sky, this fine early Dogon figure displays a characteristic gesture of Dogon Nommo sculptures, which have been said to indicate the communication between the earth and heaven during prayers for rain.
The figure exhibits a weathered surface, with a missing area below the torso as a result of erosion and age. An old label is attached to the base of the figure.
