Typically carved from one block of wood this fine nineteenth century chair from Gende Beret features a beautiful arched back-support adorned with fine decorations on the front and back. The chair has three curved supporting legs with upright stilts each with engraved decorations.
High-backed wooden chairs figure prominently in the installation of chiefs among different groups in southern Ethiopia -serving as symbols of rank and entitlement during meetings by the council of elders.
