A beautifully sculptured piece that captures a mother, sitting upright and proudly holding her female child. Such pieces played an important role in the Kwere culture during the young girls initiation into mother hood. The figure has a beautiful smooth and slightly oily surface patina, as a result of handling and touching during ceremonial use. Adorning both the mother and child's neck are stands of fine glass beads, with seeds and buttons attached. White is a prominent colour which is a symbol of purity.
