FINE ELDER'S STOOL. POKOT, KENYA

£680 - ON HOLD

Fine Elder's Stool. Pokot Culture, Kenya

Small, three-legged stools such as this were carried and used by Pokot elders - serving a dualistic purpose as functional objects and material symbols of the individual's rank and prestige. The form of the stool exhibits an unusual sculptural quality, in which a defining feature of the piece are the three beautifully curved, flared and flattened legs which support the flat circular seat. An old restoration, in which a single copper rivet was used, is present on the rim of the seat. The surface of the stool exhibits a slightly glossy, smooth, light patina.
