Hunter's Staff

Fipa, Tanzania

Hunter’s Staff. Fipa Culture, Western Tanzania

This staff from western Tanzania would have been carried across the shoulders by a Fipa hunter. The staff exhibits a lovely and very unusual form, surmounted by a carved animal head. The twisted, elongated ears or horns of the animal follow the natural form of a forked tree branch.
