This high-backed chair, from the Jimma region of Ethiopia, is supported by three finely curved legs. Such chairs would have been sat upon as a symbol of rank and prestige. The appealing feature of this chair is its carved back support, which consists of contrasting circular and geometric forms. Over time, the surface of the chair has developed a dark, lusty patina.
