This old wooden pipe would have been the prized possession of an elder or chief in central Tanzania. The head of the pipe depicts a human head with a pointed chin and large round ears. The shaft of the pipe is carved with raised round rings which are linked together. Aluminium, present in the cup of the pipe, protected the wood from the burning tobacco.
