Intended to be displayed in an elite Tutsi household, this unusually large prestige basket (agaseki) is an impressive visual emblem of status. Dense, thick fibre strands have been coil-sewn to produce the distinctive sculptural form of this basket, which comprises a typically Tutsi cone-shaped lid. Different tonal varieties of woven-together natural and dyed fibre strands create subtle, spiralling patterns.
