This mask has a wonderful expression. Carved from a dense hard wood that has developed a layered worn surface. The mask has a gapping open month, elongated chin, half circular ears that are unaligned and small rounded eyes. There are remnants of red and black paint around the mouth and eyes and the remainder of the surface of the mask has been covered with layers of white kaolin now worn in parts where it has been handled.
The mask was collected in Songea Region on the border of Malawi and Tanzania.
