This fine Zulu meat platter (ugqoko) from Southern Africa was traditionally used to serve meat, namely goat and cattle meat. The platter takes the form of a rectangular bowl with rounded corners, flanked on each end by handles.
The underside of the meat platter is adorned with a beautiful geometric star-shaped design. In traditional houses, the platter would be hung and displayed on the wall with the decorated underside facing outwards. While the surface of the platter's underside exhibits a lovely glossy patina, the other side of the platter has developed a worn surface patina over time.
