This early powder box has been finely decorated all over its wooden surface with typical Kuba interlocking geometric designs. A series of metal tacks decorate the surface of the lid of the box. Part of the handle on the lid has been worn away and is missing.
Such boxes were traditionally used to hold camwood power which was used to decorate the hair and body. Traces of the red camwood can be seen on the lid and body of the box.
