This rare ceremonial head adornment was collected in the 1980s by two doctors, Karl and Tina Hofer, when they worked in the Cameroon Grasslands. The helmet, crafted from iron, is adorned with a hammered and dotted surface pattern. This form of dot decoration typically also appears on iron shields from the same area, namely, the northern region of Cameroon. The crest of the head adornment is surmounted by a spiral decoration, and underneath, a locally-made linked chain attachment would have hung below the wearer's chin.
