This nineteenth-century mask exhibits a wonderful, primal expression with an elongated forehead, prominent nose and wide, gaping mouth. Decorating the mask's eyes are traces of vibrant red pigment, and a single tooth remains lodged in its upper jaw. It is thought that this early mask comes from either the Sukuma, Zeba or another related culture in western Tanzania.
