Bowl

Maasai, Tanzania

Rare Bowl. Maasai Culture, Tanzania

It is rare to find Maasai bowls such as this. This wide-mouthed, thinly-walled wooden bowl has been finely carved into a lovely, rounded form. Over time, the surface of the bowl has developed a beautiful, rich patina.

Featured on either side of the bowl are two curved handles, which bear resemblance to the horns of a cow. A decorative attachment, consisting of small blue glass beads and a single cowrie shell, adorns one of the horn-shaped handles.

Estimated Period: 1960's
