With its tall leaning backrest carved into the shape of a cross, this large four-legged chair from the Jimma region of Ethiopia exhibits an extremely rare form.
It is considered that this is the only chair in existence with this form.
High-backed wooden chairs figure prominently in the installation of chiefs among different groups in southernEthiopia -serving as symbols of rank and entitlement during meetings by the council of elders.
