A large richly adorned gourd medicine container, Kaguru culture, Tanzania. This container, with its carved wooden stopper has a amazing array of decorations and attachments. One of the most beautiful containers I have never handled. Around its body are two large tiger cowrie shells which are rare to find on the coast of Tanzania. Another large shell attached has been stuffed with a bundle of traditional medicine inside. These together with the multiple stands of old glass beads are a testament to this pieces once power and importance.
