This title staff, carved into a bird-shaped form, comes from the Chokwe culture or surrounding area. The head of the ‘bird’ would have rested on the shoulder of the owner when the staff was carried. Finely engraved decorations feature at the top and bottom of the staff.
Signs of wear on the back of the ‘head’ indicate where the staff would have been used as some form of implement. The surface of the staff exhibits a lovely glossy patina.
