WOODEN MILK CONTAINER

Wooden Storage Container. Borana Culture, Somalia

 

This is a old wooden container carved from a soft wood that is only found in the dessert region of Northern Kenya and Somali.

It is used by the nomadic Somali people to store goats milk, a very valuable commodity for this culture.

It would have been contained inside a wicker framed basket and tied to the back of a camel.

Estimated Period: Mid-20th Century (Or Before)

H: 35 cm
