This rare Akan gold weight depicts a fabled antelope, it has an unusual feature which I have not seen before in a gold weight, namely, the inclusion of two hornbill birds perched on the antelope's spiral-shaped horns.
The weight is larger than normal in comparison to other Akan gold weights, and the surface of the piece is smooth and worn where it has been handled.
