£420

Elder's Stool with Decorative Wirework Top. Kamba Culture, Kenya

‍This elders stool from the 1930's has its seat decorated with twisted copper strands of wire with a central spiral design surrounded by a series of semi-circular patterns.

This feature of decorating the top of the seat with intricate wirework patterns was a practice the Kamba were renowned for in the early part of last century.

This seat has also a strip of aluminium as a restoration, all this going to prove the importance of small seats in the Kamba culture which were symbols of status and prestige.
