1950's Koranko Poro Society 'Angai' Mask, Guinea

£3400

1950's Poro Society Angai Mask. Koranko (Kuranko) Culture, Guinea

Fine Poro Society mask coming from the Koranko (Kuranko) Gbangbane society in either North-eastern or South-eastern Guinea.

The mask has a wonderful abstract form, surmounted with four curved horns above a flat oval shaped face. The simplistic void surface of the face combined with the curved horns are the striking characteristic's of this mask.

The back has an encrusted worn surface where once organic material would have been attached.
