This large Akan gold weight depicts a catfish, with a detailed flattened head, spiralling whiskers (one is missing) and a finely cast curled tail with fins reaching around to join the fish's mouth. The underside exhibits a beautiful smooth surface, reflecting the age of this nineteenth-century bronze gold weight.
