This nineteenth-century Akan figurative gold weight depicts a standing warrior. He is shown holding a weapon in one hand, and a shield, decorated with fine geometric markings, in the other.
A similar, eighteenth-century example of an Akan gold weight representing a warrior with a shield is described in Tom Phillip's publication African Goldweights: Miniature Sculptures from Ghana 1400-1900, (page 74).
