This fine 'Nyenne' mask, from the Kuranko Gbangbane society of north-eastern Guinea, displays a wonderful abstract form. The flat and oval-shaped face is surmounted by four curved horns, which, in combination with the face's simplistic void surface, are a striking characteristic of this piece. At the back of the mask, the surface exhibits an encrusted, worn patina, where a bundle of organic material would have once been attached.
