This fine 'Nyenne' mask, from the Kuranko Poro society of north-eastern Guinea, displays a wonderful abstract form. The face is surmounted by a pair of curved, adjoining horns, which, in combination with the face's simplistic void surface, are a striking characteristic of this piece. At the back of the mask, the surface exhibits an encrusted patina, where twisted iron fragments, have been driven into the surface of the front of the mask.
