Beautifully decorated covers such as this were traditionally placed over vessels of beer, with the intricacy of their designs reflecting the significance of the valued contents inside. Tightly woven using the coiled technique into a circular form, this pot cover displays a pattern of abstract animal designs in red and blue. Echoing the red-coloured zoomorphic motifs is a similarly-coloured circular feature - artistically recycled from what is likely to be plastic - at the very centre of the cover.
