Supported by three outwardly-curved legs, this fine 19th century Gurage chair features a beautifully formed high backrest, which elegantly arches and culminates in a gentle curve at the top. The surface has developed a wonderfully dark, rich patina over the years.
An interesting feature of this chair can be found on the front of the backrest, where three individual letters have been engraved into the surface - possibly some form of a personal identity marking. There is also attractive zig-zag decorations running down each side of the back support.
