BONGO HEADREST WITH CENTRAL CHAMBER, SOUTHERN SUDAN

£580

Headrest with Central Chamber. Likely Bongo Culture, Southern Sudan

Carved from a single piece of wood, this headrest features two central upright supports which are not visible, but covered and wrapped with a piece of leather. The headrest has a circular opening located on one side, in which the formed central chamber acts as a storage container for tobacco. The neck support has been carved into an upturned, saddle-like shape, and connected to the body of the headrest is a plaited leather strap which acts as a handle.
