This beautifully formed Senufo bronze anklet would have been worn as a prestige item. A similar example appears in Anne van Cutsem's 2003 publication A World of Bracelets: Africa, Asia, America, Oceania, with the following description: 'A photograph, in the Musee de L' Homme in Paris, shows a women adorned with two pairs of anklets of this type. The largest rest on the top of her feet, while she probably worn the smaller one when she was a child'. This piece was purchased as a de-acquisition from the Tervuren Museum in 2014.
