Carved from a very heavy hard wood, this tall and slender Madonna has developed a deep, worn and bleached surface patina over time. Unusually - and not personally seen before - the figure has a pair of pegged, marionette-like hands which can be turned inwards and outwards. The veil flows with a rippled effect and covers the full back of the Madonna's body.
