This fine early Zulu headrest consists of three strong, pillar-like legs supporting a gently curving neck support, which slightly overhangs on each side. A distinguishing feature of this piece is the decorations of the legs, which each feature striking horizontal rows of amasumpa designs in a deeply cut relief. The headrest exhibits a lovely dark chocolate-like surface patina.
