FINE LUBA KIFWEBE MASK, DRC. EX CHRISTIE'S. LONDON 1979

PRICE ON REQUEST

Fine Early Kifwere Mask. Luba Culture, DRC

Displayeing a typically rounded forehead associated with Luba Kifwebe masks. The mask has been decorated with a series of curved white striations radiating out from either side of the nose. Additional attractive linear striations appear across the forehead and on the lower section of the face, flanking the mouth. Both the front and back of the mask exhibit a deep, well-worn patina, reflecting its age and use.

An original Christie's auction label remains affixed to its back, identifying the mask as Lot 179, in a 1979 sale. Since that time, the mask has remained in the same family collection in North London until recent times.
