A fine early 20th Century Mangbetu Negbe with an attractive geometric design, created from contrasting raised patterns of woven raffia fibre in a typically oval form. The centre section consists of flattened bark fibre.
The Negbe was an important symbol of wealth and prestige and was worn only on ceremonial occasions.
