Group of Five 18th/19th Century Bronze Gold Weights Depicting Ceremonial Horns. Akan Culture, Ghana

This group of finely cast bronze gold weights depicts a variety of ceremonial horns. Cast by Akan goldsmiths, small gold weights (mrammou) such as this were used to weigh gold dust - the currency of the Akan and potent symbol of kra (life-force) - between the fifteenth and nineteenth centuries.

L (Smallest Gold Weight): 3cm

H (Largest Gold Weight): 6cm
