A very impressive Dogon sirige mask. The mask has been beautifully decorated in natural pigments of red, black and white. The upright extension has been bound and strapped together with its very top worn away where the mask dancer touches the top of the mask against the ground during ceremonial dance. Dogon sirige masks are performed as part of the dama ritual dance and serves as a link between the mortal and spiritual world. The mask shows extensive signs of use and age. Threads of its original costume remain attached to the back of the mask.
