Forged into the form of an animal with an elongated body and outwardly-curving, twisted horns, it is likely that this piece depicts an antelope. Antelopes are a prominent motif in Bambara iron sculptures, often representing a mythical figure who is said to have taught the Bambara the art of agriculture.
