A calabash would have been traditionally attached to the beautifully curved underside of the shaft of this musical instrument. The instrument is surmounted by a carved crouching female figure.
Intricate raised striations and geometric shapes adorn the side of the shaft. The surface of the instrument exhibits a lovely encrusted patina.
