This large Lozi bowl displays a strikingly sculptural form. Carved into the shape of a wild duck with its neck elegantly arching backwards, this bowl has a beautiful sense of movement. The bowl consists of two constituent parts - a base, and a tightly fitting lid - and throughout, exhibits a deep, lusty surface patina. Animals depicted on bowls made by the Lozi people of Zambia, such as wild ducks, were species that could be found inhabiting the shores of the Zambezi River.
