The fetish figure stands with its arms and legs set apart in an powerful open stance. The body has been wrapped and bound in strips of cloth which have developed over time a deep, oily and encrusted surface patina. Strands of early glass beads are wrapped around its neck. Attached to its back is an usual fetish bundle of wood and fibre. Circle and dot designs decorate both cheeks of its face. The figure would have played a central role to the traditional healer, placed and displayed on his shrine, or platform, together with other ritual pieces like medicine containers, figures and bottles. All of these types of pieces had a function as well as acting as a symbol of the healers strength and importance.
