A fine miniature personal mask or amulet, 'Ma Go', with a distinctive profile. Small masks of this type were often carried as protective amulets. When travelling, the owner would carry the mask as an indication of his association with a particular guardian spirit.
With its sharp angular lines, pyramid-shaped eyes and mouth, this mask displays stylistic characteristics associated with the Dan-Kran. However, it is difficult to attribute it with complete certainty, as similar examples are also found among the Dan-Gio.
Traces of the original white pigment remain on the forehead and chin, while the exposed edges and high points have developed a deep, lustrous patina from handling over time.
