YOMBE/VILI POWER FIGURE, KONGO

Fine Power or Ancestral Figure. Yombe or Vili Culture, Kongo

A Kongo Yombe or Vili ancestral figure kneeling on a rectangular base with a finely featured slightly upturned head, fine lips and open mouth. The glass eyes are typically painted white and metal nails, now corroded, have been inserted around the lower jaw and chin.(There are signs that there was once an attachment of some sort to this area) The figure sits with reversed hands resting on the upper thighs. At the back are two small fetish holes with traces of tiny insertions or dots of metal, which appears to be iron, just below the lower hole and on the lower neck (as shown in the photos)
