Masterfully woven and crocheted from raffia fibre, this fine Kuba head adornment also displays an unusual feature with its two ear shaped protrusions at the summit of the cap. Emblazoned on the front of the hat is a dark brown cross-shape, echoed by a band of dark brown around the rim. Areas of a striking series of woven and crocheted raised patterns flank the cross design, and long strands of attached animal hair, which is very unusual to find in such a piece, provide further adornment to this important piece.
