Masks and sculpture from this region, more specifically from this remote Island on Lake Victoria, are rare.
Carved from a dense hard wood, this mask has a powerful expression, with triangular-shaped eyes, an open mouth and an unusual double layered chin. Stylistically, this mask shares similarities with masks from the neighbouring cultures of the Sukuma and Ziba.
