This small bronze figure shows amazing detail in the casting - particularly in the depiction of the baby. The figure shows a mother sitting upright on a stool, gently holding and breast feeding her baby. Visually signalling the mother's protection of her child, her hands have been exaggerated in size - a feature that follows through to the baby.
The baby exhibits extremely fine features in his face, hair and body - and on the surface, a verdigris patina has developed. Parts of the mother and child figure have a worn and smooth patina where it has been touched and handled over time, indicating that the piece was likely placed on a shrine for an extended period.
