Three 1930's Mbole Woven Bark Fibre Decorative Panels, DRC

SOLD

Three 1930's Woven Bark Fibre Decorative Panels. Mbole Culture, DRC

Woven panels such as these would have decorated the walls of a traditional Mbole meeting house. The panels are made from woven bark fibre decorated with striking geometric designs. The dark-coloured strands of fibre, used to create the bold abstract decorations against a pale background, have been dyed with the roots of the banana tree.

These panels have been mounted on a custom-made mount. Each panel is unique - no two panels are the same.
